Sorcerer’s Stars

This screenprinting project was inspired by an episode of the podcast Lore, which described magicians and sorcerers in medieval times. My piece relates the story of Hew Draper, an accused sorcerer imprisoned in the Salt Tower in the Tower of London. After a year of incarceration, Draper carved an intricate astronomical clock in the tower’s walls. Days later, he mysteriously disappeared. My piece, “The Sorcerer’s Stars,” is 4 layers: a halftone dot background of the night sky, the tower base color, stonework detail, and the carving, done in golden ink, recalling the pseudoscience of alchemy.
