The Monument’s Fate is a broadside I completed when controversy surrounding Confederate statues was widespread, and I wanted to express commentary on it. Using an element from my sci-fi stories – the Obelisk of Oblivion – as inspiration, I added the caption to the stenciled artwork to give it a universal message. As stencils, I painted six variants of the broadside, but my favorite is “Obsidian,” the black monument on desert cliffs.
