The “Bolt of Lightning” is an underappreciated sculpture by Isamu Noguchi. Its unfortunate location at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia means that drivers are constantly circling around it, making it difficult for pedestrians to reach its concrete peninsula. My mockups for a plaque, therefore, place it across the street from the Bolt, at the entrance to Franklin Square. My branding icon for the Bolt is inspired by the motion of circling around the monument, represented by layering multiple views on top of each other. The icon’s colors resemble a stormy night sky, whereas the plaque’s palette pulls blues and grays from the monument and plaza. The plaque is also decorated with two 3D lanterns, mirroring the layout of the plaza viewed from Franklin Square. I wireframed a mobile experience in Sketch discussing how to reach the sculpture safely.
